Your privacy is fundamental to the trust at the core of Jabad. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Jabad platform you consent to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information — name, phone number, email, password (hashed), role
- KYC documents — government-issued ID, business registration (for agents)
- Property data — listings, photos, videos, addresses, GPS coordinates
- Transaction data — bookings, offers, payment metadata (no full card / mobile-money credentials)
- Communications — chat messages between users, support tickets
- Device & usage data — IP address, browser, app version, pages viewed
- Location data — when you grant permission for "use my current location"
2. How We Use Information
- To create and verify your account (phone OTP, KYC)
- To facilitate property transactions and rent collection
- To prevent fraud, abuse, and duplicate listings
- To improve the platform and our verification systems
- To send transactional notifications (SMS, WhatsApp, email) — you can opt out of marketing communications at any time
3. Mobile Money & Payment Data
Jabad does not store your full payment credentials. When you pay using EVC Plus, ZAAD, SAHAL, eDahab, or any card processor, only the minimum data needed to confirm the transaction (reference number, amount, status) is shared with us. Your wallet PIN and full card number never touch Jabad's servers.
4. KYC Document Handling
ID documents you upload for KYC are encrypted at rest and accessible only to our verification team and, when legally required, to authorities under proper process. KYC documents are retained for as long as your account is active and for 7 years after closure (the standard retention for financial transaction records).
5. Data Sharing with Third Parties
We share data with the following categories of providers only as necessary to deliver the service:
- Mobile money operators (EVC Plus, ZAAD, SAHAL, eDahab) and card processors
- Mapping providers (OpenStreetMap, Google Maps)
- SMS and WhatsApp gateways
- Identity verification providers
- Cloud infrastructure (Amazon Web Services)
We do not sell your personal information to advertisers.
6. International Data Transfers
Jabad is built for both local and diaspora users. Some data may be processed in AWS regions outside Somalia. For our users in the EU and UK, we follow GDPR-aligned safeguards including data processing agreements with our providers and the right to data access, correction, and deletion.
7. Data Retention
- Active account data: kept while the account is active
- Transaction records: 7 years (regulatory requirement)
- Listings: 2 years after a listing is closed/expired
- Maintenance records: 3 years
- Support communications: 3 years
8. Data Security Measures
We protect your information through encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, role-based access controls, audit logging, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to maintain the trust you place in us.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that is inaccurate
- Delete your account and personal data (subject to retention obligations)
- Object to certain uses, including marketing communications
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format

10. Cookies & Tracking
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and measure how the platform is used. You can disable cookies in your browser, though parts of the platform may not work as intended.
11. Children's Privacy
Jabad is not intended for use by individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has registered, please contact us and we will remove the account.
12. Changes to This Policy
If we update this Policy in any material way, we will notify you in advance via email or in-app notice.
